Bloedel Reserve: Thoughtful by Nature

Sunlight filters through tall evergreens onto a shaded forest path at Bloedel Reserve, where a wooden bench overlooks a still pond surrounded by ferns and lush greenery.

Some places make you slow down the moment you arrive. Bloedel Reserve, tucked away on Bainbridge Island just outside of Seattle, is one of them. A 140-acre garden and forest preserve, the property was originally the private estate of Virginia and Prentice Bloedel, who envisioned the landscape as a place for reflection, restoration, and connection with nature. Today, it’s recognized for its intentional design that blends sustainability, ecology, and tranquility.

As a former Seattleite, I’m always reminded of how much I value the combination of natural beauty and purposeful planning this region offers. During a January visit, I was once again struck by how calm and immersive the entire property felt. Even in winter, everything was alive - moss-covered paths, layered greens, and views that revealed themselves slowly and quietly as I walked.

Bloedel Reserve isn’t a resort or a traditional venue, and that’s exactly what makes it compelling. Private events are limited and thoughtfully managed, with the Residence, Reflecting Pool, Japanese Guest House, and Lawn available for select gatherings. With views of the water and surrounding gardens, it’s an unexpected and unforgettable setting for a retreat, celebration, or wedding.

From a planning perspective, Bainbridge Island is surprisingly convenient. It feels remote yet is only a short ferry ride from downtown Seattle. For clients ready to step outside the usual event format, this location can be a meaningful and memorable choice.

At AWE, we create experiences that are rooted in both purpose and place. For those drawn to the Pacific Northwest, Bloedel Reserve can serve as the centerpiece of a larger program. We might pair it with a welcome dinner in the city, private ferry transportation, and a chef-led meal after a day spent exploring the Reserve. When the environment is this inspiring, the rest of the experience can be beautifully simple.

If you're planning a gathering with intention and want to give your guests space to connect and feel present, we’d be honored to help you bring it to life here!
